ABC Technique

A full-body, manual method of correcting and optimising the postural biomechanics. We look at the structure and function of all aspects of the body- from the top of the head, to the tips of the toes.

Consistent and predictable posture transformations is what sets us apart from traditional chiropractic practices.

Dr Regan Osborne is our Advanced Biostructural Correction™ ABC qualified Chiropractor, at Byron Bay Chiropractic Centre. He can give you a full postural assessment, posture photos and postural correction protocol adjusting.

How do we get poor posture and pain?

We all experience physical traumas, it’s inevitable. Sometimes it’s injuries and accidents, but ‘micro traumas’ such as long periods of sitting, or repetitive tasks cannot be underestimated.

Physical trauma has the potential to create misalignments in the joints of your spine.

Some misalignments your body can correct, some your body can not. Misalignments place stress, weight and pressure on the surrounding joints, muscles and nerves of the spine.

Normally, the body will self correct these misalignments if possible. HOWEVER, if the misalignment is in a direction your body can not correct then we have a problem.

When your body cannot self-correct a problem it will compensate.

The body is highly adaptive, and will move to take pressure off sites of stress and injury.

Throughout your life, compensations for minor and major misalignments will layer on top of each other. Eventually your body has compensations on top of compensations, on top of compensations!

As a result your body becomes stiff, rigid, and joints have decreased range of motion.

The most noticable change from this compensation build up is poor posture.

  • Forward head posture

  • Rounded shoulders

  • Sway back

  • Stiff and locked posture

  • Hyperkyphosis (rounded upper back)

  • Dowager's hump (hump on the base of the neck)

  • Tilted pelvis

The final straw from having postures like this is PAIN. Pain can seeming come out of the blue, however the reality is that it has often been building for years.

How we help improve your posture.

As ABC™ practitioners we correct ONLY what your body can not self correct on the mechanical level. When these misalignments have been corrected through specific ABC™ adjustments, the compensatory twist that your smart body created to cope is no longer needed.

This means your body can literally UNWIND and let go of the patterns of tension and twist that have caused poor posture and pain.

Unwinding

this is like a big sigh of relief for the body.

Over time, the more layers of misalignments removed, the less pressure and pain your body is experiencing. Most of our patients continue to ‘unwind’ well after their initial symptoms have passed as they begin to notice great changes within their bodies.

The most noticeable change of unwinding is improved posture, prevention of future problems, improved breathing, increased energy, decreased pain, and better movement patterns.

Conditions commonly related to poor posture

ABC is based on four basic principles:

1. Your body has an ability to heal. This is self evident if you have ever cut yourself or broken a bone. ABC™ acknowledges this innate ability of the body and works with it rather than against it.

2. The body can not correct all ailments and problems. If the body could fix everything, there would be no need for chiropractors or other manual therapy modalities.

3. ABC™ focuses on correcting ONLY what your body cannot self correct.

4. Correct spinal alignment (posture) is important for health and living pain free. Changes in posture place unnecessary pressure on joints, muscles and nerves.

The importance of posture should not be underestimated. “Observation of the striking influence of postural mechanics on function and symptomatology have led to our hypothesis that posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to normal hormonal production.  Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture.” –American Journal of Pain Management 1994, 4: 36-39
