Chiropractic Myths and Facts

Chiropractic Myths Debunked: Separating Fact from Fiction in Spine Care

In the realm of healthcare, myths and misconceptions often cloud the truth. Chiropractic care, a field dedicated to spinal health and overall well-being, is no stranger to such myths. Today, we’re setting the record straight, using scientific evidence and real-life experiences to debunk these myths once and for all.

Myth #1: Chiropractic Care Isn't Based on Science

The reality is quite the opposite, chiropractic has some excellent studies and research!

  • Scientific studies have shown that chiropractic treatments can be highly effective for relieving back pain, headaches, improving mobility and strength, and enhancing quality of life.

  • A 2018 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that patients with chronic low back pain experienced significantly greater improvement with chiropractic care compared to usual medical care (1).

Myth #2: Chiropractors Aren't 'Real' Doctors

This myth couldn't be further from the truth. Chiropractors undergo rigorous education and training.

  • To become a licensed chiropractor, one must complete an undergraduate degree followed by an applied degree in Chiropractic all of which typically takes five years.

  • In Australia, qualified Chiropractors are allowed to use the prefix ‘Doctor’.

  • The curriculum covers areas such as anatomy, physiology, and rehabilitative exercises, ensuring chiropractors are well-equipped to treat patients safely and effectively.

"Many people are surprised to learn how comprehensive chiropractic training is. Our focus is not just on spinal adjustments but on promoting overall health and wellness. We aim to empower the individual to take control of their health through non-invasive, natural methods."

Myth #3: Chiropractic adjustments hurt

  • Chiropractors are highly trained to deliver adjustments. Not all of these are hands on! Sometimes we use instruments or breathing techniques to aid the muskuloskeletal system.

  • We understand pain, we really do. We keep your comfort levels in mind at all times and aim to help you feel safe and comfortable.

  • Some adjustments may feel like pressure or tension, and sometimes this is needed to help correct the underlying issue quickly. If this is the case, we always check in with you.
